Learning Spanish

Spanish and Italian: Gateways to the Romance Languages

Spanish and Italian are both excellent languages to learn, graced as they are with the poetic expression of their romantic roots. Thanks to their similarity, each language can act as a door to the other, greatly increasing their value as a foreign language (they can also act as a gateway to other romance languages such as French).

Italy and Spain – although both endowed with a unique and beautiful culture – also have their similarities, such as can be appreciated in their Mediterranean approach to life. Italians are much like Spaniards not perhaps in their particular behaviors but in their adventurous and optimistic nature, their ability to exhibit real passion in their lives.

Both countries are fascinating places to visit, and enjoyable also for longer study periods. Their proximity and similarity in language make them perfect complements to each other as places to visit during a stay abroad or as sites to take a future language course in.

Language courses in Spain are a good investment in the future; with over 400 million native Spanish speakers spread throughout the globe and more than 20 officially Spanish-speaking countries, the value of Spanish is great in the world today.

In the U.S. the language is quickly becoming the country’s second, with increased business ties to Central and South America and a rapidly expanding Hispanic community predicted to reach nearly a quarter of the population by 2050.

Learning Spanish can help you get a better or higher-paying job in many sectors, especially those related to communication and travel. Displaying your study abroad experience in Spain on your CV or resume is a sure way to stand out in a list of applicants.

The personal experience of coming into contact and adapting to a new culture is one of the biggest benefits of studying abroad. You’ll learn to broaden your perspective and develop a deeper relationship with yourself and your world. Traveling and living in a new culture is not always easy, but it never fails to be rewarding.

Spain’s culture is one of the most engaging in the world; combined with its sandy beaches, legendary nightlife and profound historical heritage, Spain has become the globe’s top tourist destination.

Living in Spain is so enjoyable thanks to its relaxed pace of life and its many cultural and natural wonders. Spanish life is exciting and dynamic for young students in particular, but Spain has something for people of all ages and interests: art and history, great nightlife, the opportunity to truly relax and enjoy life.

Spain is a great place to study abroad because it’s such a fun and enjoyable place, its language is so useful in the world and – perhaps most importantly – the experience of taking in its warm and inviting culture is good for personal growth.
